GCSE English Language Resit – Six-Lesson Course Lesson 1: Paper 1 Reading – Exploring Fiction Focus on Paper 1 Reading Questions 1–4. Students will develop key skills in retrieval, inference, language analysis, structural analysis and evaluation. Through fiction extracts, students will explore how writers present characters, settings and atmosphere and create tension. Homework: Complete a Paper 1 reading question and revise key terminology. Lesson 2: Paper 1 Reading – Analysing the Writer’s Choices Develop more detailed analysis of the writer’s methods. Students will examine language, structure, imagery, vocabulary, sentence forms and narrative perspective, as well as shifts in focus and their effects on the reader. Homework: Complete a Q2, Q3 and/or Q4 response using an unseen fiction extract. Lesson 3: Paper 1 Writing – Creative Writing Develop the skills required for effective descriptive and narrative writing. Students will work on character, setting, atmosphere and structure while improving vocabulary, sentence forms, punctuation and technical accuracy. Homework: Write a timed creative response and complete a focused edit to improve the final piece. Lesson 4: Paper 2 Reading – Viewpoints and Perspectives Focus on Paper 2 Reading Questions 1–4. Students will develop skills in retrieval, summary and language analysis while learning to identify and compare writers’ viewpoints and perspectives. Particular attention will be given to purpose and audience across two non-fiction texts. Homework: Complete Paper 2 reading questions using two non-fiction texts. Lesson 5: Paper 2 Writing – Presenting a Viewpoint Develop transactional and persuasive writing through articles, speeches, letters and essays. Students will practise constructing arguments, using persuasive and rhetorical techniques and adapting tone, register and content for different audiences and purposes. Homework: Write a timed Paper 2 Q5 response and edit it for content, organisation and accuracy. Lesson 6: Papers 1 & 2 – Bringing the Skills Together Consolidate the full range of Paper 1 and Paper 2 skills. Students will review different question types, reading and writing techniques, planning, timing, evidence selection, comparison, evaluation and proofreading. The lesson will also identify individual areas requiring further revision before the examination. Homework: Complete an individual revision plan and targeted examination practice
