It is a 5-lesson course offering a comprehensive guide to interview preparation. The short course divides various question types and culminates with a 20-30 minute mock interview in Lesson 5, with scope for immediate feedback and reflection. Please find an outline of my proposal below: Lesson 1: Introduction + "Questions About You" - this introduces the concept of the interview, thinking carefully about what function it plays in the admissions process and what students should expect; we also focus on the first common type of question, "Questions About You", in which candidate answers questions about themselves, their likes & dislikes, hobbies, etc. Lesson 2: "Questions About School" - I tend to divide this class into 2 sections: "Questions About Your Current School" and "Questions About Your Future School" (i.e. the school they are applying to). Lesson 3: "Outside the Box Questions" - this class focuses on the more philosophical, conceptual or "unexpected" questions common to admissions interviews, from "Time Travel" to Current Affairs... Lesson 4: "Unseen Sources Questions" - it is not uncommon, in my experience, for students to be given an unseen source during (or shortly before) the interview and asked to respond to it; this can range from a painting/photograph to an object or even a short extract (e.g. a poem) as a prompt for further questions, typically assessing critical thinking and students' ability to respond to new information Lesson 5: Mock Interview - the course ends with a mock interview (20-30 minutes on average), giving the students an opportunity to put what they have learned during Lessons 1-4 into practice. As the interview only takes half of the lesson, there is scope for immediate discussion and feedback as well as an opportunity for students to ask any final questions they may have about the interview process.
