1 teacher-to-3 students This course develops the key creative and transactional writing skills required at 13+ level and beyond, using exam-style questions and model responses. Students will practise letters, articles, speeches, persuasive arguments, description, storytelling and informative writing. The SOW is a general overview and may be adapted to students' needs and academic level. Students may not use AI or translation devices to create their work. Homework should be submitted in the following lesson and will be reviewed in class. Lesson 1: Imaginative Writing “Imagine you are an object hundreds of years old.” Use personification, historical background, sentence variety, detail and time shifts to give an object a convincing voice. Lesson 2: Letter & Autobiographical Writing Write to your 8-year-old self or explore “Young or old: which is better?” Develop logical arguments, comparison, advice, persuasion and effective conclusions. Lesson 3: Picture Description – Libraries Describe real and imaginary libraries from picture prompts. Develop factual description while using imagination and mystery to transform settings. Lesson 4: The Crashed Car Turn a picture of a wrecked car into a three-part story. Use flashbacks, weather, time shifts and imaginative vocabulary to build atmosphere. Lesson 5: ISPACED – Sentence Variety Use the ISPACED technique to improve sentence openings and variety through descriptions of children outdoors and an abandoned/haunted house. Lesson 6: Describing People on a Bus Create vivid descriptions by focusing on individuals, zooming in on details and using character types and dialogue effectively. Lesson 7: Magazine Article & Persuasive Writing Explore topics such as zoos, adventure or bullying. Learn to build, organise and sequence persuasive arguments in an effective article. Lesson 8: Autobiographical & Confessional Writing Describe overcoming a fear. Select meaningful memories, plan effectively and communicate personal experiences convincingly. Lesson 9: Story Writing – “Running Late” Create an effective story using characters, a three-part structure and a central event. Apply Freytag's Pyramid to strengthen plot development. Lesson 10: Speech Writing “All children should learn a musical instrument.” Plan and structure a persuasive speech using evidence, personal experience and informed viewpoints.
