Service Description

Phase 2: It is a 1-to-4 course. Leo Education's 13+ Non-Fiction Writing course equips students with the essential skills to excel in crafting compelling and purposeful non-fiction texts. Students will gain a critical understanding of the different types of texts within the non-fiction genre, including newspaper articles, opinion writing, informal and formal letters, as well as biographical and autobiographical writing. Our course is specifically tailored to students preparing for their GCSE English Language examination and represents 25% of the overall marks to be gained in the exam. Students will receive targeted guidance on exam-specific requirements, including question interpretation, and effective response strategies. By the end of the course, participants will have learned the art of structuring their writing to convey information clearly, persuasively, and with precision. 1: Decoding Non-Fiction To identify the characteristics of non-fiction texts and understand how genre, audience, and purpose shape their structure and language. HW: Analysis of the genre, audience and purpose of different types of non-fiction texts. 2: Headlines and Highlights To write a compelling newspaper article, focusing on crafting attention-grabbing headlines and structured content. HW: Writing a newspaper article 3: Capturing Readers’ Attention To write engaging magazine articles tailored to specific audiences HW: Writing a magazine article 4: The Power of Words: Analysing Speeches To identify the key features of effective speeches and analyse their use of devices to engage and persuade audiences. HW: Analysis and comparison of speeches 5: Crafting a Memorable Speech To write a persuasive and impactful speech. HW: Writing a speech 6: Review Writing To write balanced reviews. HW: Writing a review 7: Report Writing / Active and Passive Voice Understanding the difference between active and passive voice and when to use each. HW: Writing a report 8: Persuasive Writing: Creating Leaflets To create effective and appealing leaflets HW: Writing a leaflet 9: Proofreading and Editing To refine and improve writing through proofreading and editing, ensuring technical accuracy and effective communication. HW: Proofreading /Editing exercise. 10: Final Assessment and Feedback To display knowledge of all you have learned HW: Revision
