Education background highlights:
Secondary PGCE, University of Reading; English Literature BA with honours, Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge
Brief self-introduction:
UK licenced teacher with 8 years teaching experience, KS3 coordinator (second in department) and SEN coordinator
Tutor skills:
I will quickly determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses, support confidence around exams and hopefully create a sense of enthusiasm about English.
Teaching style:
My teaching style is friendly, calm and encouraging. My approach is to provide clear structured resources that detail step-by-step methods for success. With experience in teaching the least to most able across multiple schools, these methods are reliably effective allowing students to write in depth and at length. We will consider writing examples from creative to more analytical responses. Here, we will consider poor, secure and excellent models of writing so students are very clear. However, for greatest success and entry into the best schools, students must be able to communicate clearly. Debate and oracy on critical ideas around texts is key to a fully grasp of English. Where relevant, we will consider and link to history, culture, other art forms and wider humane issues. Often this is where the joy and enthusiasm for the subject will emerge after the foundations are secure. My enthusiasm and approachable humour will allow students to feel comfortable discussing ideas with no fear and ambition. It is this rounded approach to English that the best schools are absolutely seeking. We will develop this in a friendly, humorous but challenging way.
