Brief self-introduction:
UK licenced teacher with over 12 years of teaching experience. Am currently Head of Science, a position held in numerous schools, including at the top private school ‘British International School of Chicago’. I also have abundant GCSE and A level tutoring experience across the sciences at GCSE and Physics at A level standard.
Tutor’s Skills:
Likes to engage and interact with the student to identify what the student wants support within the lessons; as well as having a friendly manner to use the test experiences to learn and improve from.
Teaching Style:
My teaching style is friendly and relaxed, working hard with students to ensure that they are engaging and participating fully in lessons. I like to work through problems together, calling on students to share their ideas through verbalising their thoughts out loud or using other interactive ways such as “Chat Blasts” and “Whiteboards” to communicate their key scientific points. Being able to communicate your ideas and thought process to approaching a problem (such as a calculation question) is a really important part of being successful in science and a skill that top schools look out for. Throughout my experience of teaching, part of the challenge of learning Science is that it is a course that requires a strong understanding of scientific knowledge, mathematical skills and scientific skills. As a result, students will need be willing and open to identifying and working on the areas that they are weakest at and focus on that core skill or knowledge gap, being ready to practice, practice, practice – as we know that it is the best way!
