Brief Self Introduction
UK licensed teacher with 20 years experience. I have held various positions as Head of English, Head of Literacy across Learning, Head of English and Modern Languages, Head of Year 10 and 11, Houseparent of a boarding house for 50 females in a prestigious boarding school. Abundant A Level, GCSE and IB Tutoring experience, IB Examiner for Extended Essay and IB English A Paper 1.
Teaching Style
My key strengths as a tutor include expert subject knowledge in English Language and Literature, strong communication skills, and the ability to tailor lessons to meet individual needs. I excel in building rapport with students, quickly identifying their strengths and areas for improvement, and providing clear, constructive feedback. Additionally, my pastoral experience equips me with exceptional skills in mentoring, emotional intelligence, and setting healthy boundaries — all of which allow me to support the whole student, not just their academics.
In my lessons I identify the area of weakness and use effective ways of remembering to enhance the written analysis and creativity. Verbal articulation is particularly important as students need to be able to state their ideas fluently and expressively in examinations and in interviews. Being able to convey the authentic voice is vital in being able to flourish in this subject. I encourage a passion for reading so that students gain experience of a broad range of voices that may influence their own ideas.
