Maths & Physics

Education background highlights:
University of Cambridge – BA and Master’s in Natural Sciences (Physics), 1st Class
Recipient of the Winston Churchill Memorial Fellowship from Churchill College for academic and extracurricular excellence
Awarded the J C Grove Award and Mr & Mrs J T Morgan Award at Olchfa Comprehensive School for exceptional A Level results.

Brief self-introduction:
I'm a Cambridge graduate with a Master’s in Physics and a strong academic background in mathematics and analytical thinking. I spent four years working as a quantitative analyst at a hedge fund, where I applied advanced mathematical, statistical, and programming techniques to build computer algorithms that trade on global stock markets. During university, I tutored A-Level students through Cambridge International School and supported Oxbridge applicants by conducting mock interviews in Physics and Maths, helping them refine their problem-solving and interview techniques.

Tutor’s skills:
I focus on breaking down complex concepts into their simplest form, using clear, accessible language and avoiding unnecessary technical jargon. Wherever possible, I use analogies to make abstract ideas more relatable and easier to grasp. I take a lot of inspiration from Richard Feynman’s philosophy of teaching — if you can’t explain something simply, you don’t really understand it — and I aim to help students build deep, intuitive understanding rather than just memorising formulas.

Teaching style:
My teaching style centres on making concepts as simple and relatable as possible. I use analogies tailored to each student — whether it's sport, music, video games, TV shows, or even another subject they enjoy — to help bridge the gap between the unfamiliar and the familiar. I believe that understanding what motivates a student outside the classroom is key to unlocking a deeper understanding of Physics or Maths.
When it comes to exam preparation, I place a strong emphasis on what I call “playing the marks game.” While building a solid conceptual foundation is essential, it's equally important to recognise that exams don’t test how good you are at Physics — they test how good you are at getting marks. That’s why I work closely with students on exam strategy: how to manage time effectively, how to approach questions when you're stuck, what order to tackle questions in, and how to think like a marker. This dual focus on understanding and performance gives students both confidence and results.
