Suiting the learning objectives and pace of the lessons to each student’s particular skills, enthusiasms and challenges. Though this has primarily been necessary for students who are falling behind, I have found that tutoring can be an opportunity to meet the student’s ambition in their subject and encourage them to pursue it further.
Sharp focus on exam-based skills mixed with attempts to engage the students creativelywith the subject matter.
Managing the students’ expectations of themselves by encouraging them to feel proud of what they have achieved, but also not to be downhearted about what they feel to be lacking from their own skills.
Experience with students who have a range of learning difficulties, including severe dyslexia, short-term memory loss, aspergers, autism, ADHD and neurofibromatosis.
Specialisms: creative writing; analysis; comprehension skills; debating; argument construction; paragraph construction.
