Education background highlights: ongoing Phd at Northwestern University, New York University Master’s degree
Brief self-introduction: academic researcher with four years of experience working with students aged 6 to 18
Tutor's skills: I like to find out what my students' learning styles are so that I’m able to give them the materials and support they need to learn better. In other words, it’s important that we both understand what kind of stimuli (auditory, visual, kinesthetic or reading/writing) they respond to the most so that I can provide them with that kind of input. In addition, I always find it helpful to set expectations and goals for our lessons in a way that makes them notice the progress they have made and the areas in which they still need to work on.
Teaching style: My teaching style aims to create a fun and structured environment, as I believe discipline and willingness to engage are fundamental values to have as a learner. In my own experience of learning foreign languages, and of teaching them, I realized that students are more involved if we are able to explore topics that they enjoy in the lesson. For this reason, I encourage my students to share their own interests so that we can work with them while also looking at the main topics they need to know before preparing for an exam. Debates, discussions of complex ideas and writing exercises are wonderful tools to approach these topics and definitely important in an exam preparation.
