Education: I have a PGCE from The University of Nottingham and an undergraduate degree from The University of Hull.
Self-introduction: I have eighteen years teaching experience, both as a class teacher and an English specialist teacher. I was Head of English at an independent school in London for six years, overseeing the subject across the school. I have experience teaching all year groups from Reception to Year 8. I have twelve years tutoring experience (including interview training) and an in-depth knowledge of the 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+ processes, helping students to secure offers from some of the country’s top senior schools.
Tutor skills: I strongly believe in taking the time to build positive and trusting relationships, and see a correlation between that and students maximising their academic potential. This also allows me to base my teaching, as much as possible, around a student’s interests. English grammar, comprehension and writing are my areas of expertise.
Teaching style: I am approachable, patient and fun, and, in return, I expect hard work and effort. Learning should be an enjoyable experience, so I often begin lessons with a series of short, interactive games, in order to identify strengths and weaknesses. I will then address those weaknesses using a combination of repeated exercises, practice papers and discussion to develop vocabulary, grammar and familiarity with tests. I aim to provide students with the resources and support they require to succeed.
