Phase 1. 1-to-4. he plan for the course is to cover the trickier aspects of the following syllabus content which is common to all exam boards. There will be plenty of question practice with a view to raising student attainment via polish and confidence with scientific vocabulary and understanding. Homework questions will be set and marked each week. Biology is the science of living organisms (including animals, plants, fungi and microorganisms) and their interactions with each other and the environment. The study of biology involves collecting and interpreting information about the natural world to identify patterns and relate possible cause and effect. Biological information is used to help humans improve their own lives and strive to create a sustainable world for future generations. Students should be helped to understand how, through the ideas of biology, the complex and diverse phenomena of the natural world can be described in terms of a small number of key ideas which are of universal application, and which can be illustrated in the separate topics set out below. This GCSE/IGCSE course should enable students to: .develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology .develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of biology, through different types of scientific enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them .develop and learn to apply observational, practical, modelling, enquiry and problem-solving skills .develop their ability to evaluate claims based on science through critical analysis of the methodology, evidence and conclusions, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Lesson 1: The Nature and Variety of organisms -Cells and organisation, Classification Lesson 2: The Nature and Variety of organisms- Transport, diffusion, osmosis, active transport and enzymes Lesson 3: Human Nutrition Lesson 4: Plant nutrition and transport, transpiration Lesson 5: Respiration – the need for oxygen and glucose. Gas exchange in plants and animals Lesson 6: Blood and organs – circulation, white blood cells and immunity, the heart and major vessels, capillaries Lesson 7: Homeostasis, excretion, the kidneys Lesson 8: Nervous system and the eye Lesson 9: Hormones and more on homeostasis Lesson 10: Exam techniques for top grades in Biology and feedback session
