Phase 1: 1-to-4. Phase 1 content. This intensive course is designed for Year 11 students preparing for the GCSE English Literature exam. The course aims to improve and maximise students' grades by focusing on both comprehension and analytical skills. Students will engage with a variety of literary texts, including novels, plays, and poetry, developing their ability to analyse and interpret literature critically. The course is tailored to meet individual student needs, ensuring comprehensive preparation for the GCSE English Literature exam. This course is also suitable for students taking exams from other boards, with content adapted as necessary. Session 1: Lesson Objective: To learn how to write a prose analytical paragraph Homework: Prose exercise Session 2: Lesson Objective: To learn how to approach, plan and write an extract question Homework: Prose exercise Session 3: Lesson Objective: To learn how to approach, plan and add a whole text question to the extract question Homework: Prose exercise Session 4: Lesson Objective: To learn how to analyse language, form and structure of a poem Homework: Prose exercise Session 5: Lesson Objective: To learn how to approach, plan and write a poetry essay question Homework: Prose exercise Session 6: Lesson Objective: To learn how to compare poems, using language, form and structure Homework: Prose exercise Session 7: Lesson objective: To learn how to analyse the language of a play (focusing on Shakspeare) Homework: Drama Exercise Session 8: Lesson Objective: To learn how to analyse the different aspects of drama: stage instructions, character descriptions and punctuation (focusing on modern drama) Homework: Drama Exercise Session 9: Lesson Objective: To learn how to approach, plan and structure a drama essay question Homework: Drama Exercise Session 10: Lesson Objective: To demonstrate what has been learned on the course and received detailed feedback Homework: General revision of what has been covered on the course
