Phase 1: It is a 1-to-4 class. The main focus of the course is learning how to write fluently and effectively in English with varied sentence structure, ambitious vocabulary and a variety of figurative language. There will be homework assignments in each lesson. Session 1 - Figurative Language (Similes, metaphors, alliteration) Lesson Objective: To learn how to use simpler figurative language Session 2 - Figurative Language (Personification, onomatopoeia, etc.) Lesson Objective: To learn how to use more figurative devices Session 3 - Planning the Story (How to Structure a Narrative) Lesson Objective: To learn how to plan and structure a short story Session 4 - Hooking the Reader (Crafting an engaging beginning) Lesson Objective: To learn how to begin a short story in a way that will hook a reader Session 5 - Setting the Scene (Describing Setting) Lesson Objective: To learn how to describe a setting Session 6 - Breathing Life into Characters (Creating memorable descriptions of characters) Lesson Objective: To learn how to create a character, including using dialogue to portray character traits Session 7 - Building the Story (Writing the main body) Lesson Objective: To learn how to write the main body of a short story, including building suspense Session 8 - The Art of Showing, Not Telling (Advancing plot and describing characters by showing, not telling) Lesson Objective: To use the Show, Don’t Tell technique to advance plot and describe characters Session 9 - Twists and Turns (Writing an effective ending) Lesson Objective: To learn how to write the ending to a short story Session 10 - Assessment (Final Assessment and Feedback) Lesson Objective: To display knowledge of all you have learned
