Service Description

Phase 2: It is a 1-to-3 course. The main focus of each course is broadening the students’ knowledge and understanding of the full range of English Literature, such as students are taught in English schools and beyond! Our course for younger students will focus on the three main areas of literature: prose (novels), poetry and drama and will provide an introduction to the works of Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare and Jane Austen, amongst many others. Understanding of English tradition, heritage and culture will also be addressed as well as the students beginning to learn the Point, Evidence, Analysis technique for essay writing. Lesson 1: Old English. Beowulf. Lesson Objective: To explore an epic poem Homework: Comprehension questions based on the text Lesson 2: Middle English. Geoffrey Chaucer. Lesson Objective: To explore Chaucer's language and writing Homework: Comprehension questions based on the text Lesson 3: Renaissance Literature. Plays and sonnets of William Shakespeare. Lesson Objective: To explore extracts of Shakespeare's work Homework: Comprehension questions based on the text Lesson 4: Renaissance Literature 2. The work of John Donne and John Milton. Lesson Objective: To explore poetry from Milton and Donne Homework: comprehension questions based on the text Lesson 5: Neoclassic Literature. The work of Alexander Pope. Lesson Objective: To explore poetry from Alexander Pope Homework: comprehension questions based on the text Lesson 6: Romantic Period Literature. The work of John Keat and Mary Shelley. Lesson Objective: To explore poetry from Keats and prose from Shelley Homework: Comprehension questions based on the text Lesson 7: Victorian Literature. The work of the Bronte sisters and Thomas Hardy. Lesson Objective: To explore prose from the Brontes and Thomas Hardy Homework: Comprehension questions based on the text Lesson 8: Edwardian Literature.
