Phase 3: It is a 1-to-3 course. Phase 3 This is a 1-to-3 course which is suitable both for students who are applying to grammar schools and those applying to independent schools with a range of written, and multiple choice questions covered. The main focus of the course is building comprehension skills in various forms and learning how to answer a variety of different questions. It will focus primarily on reading and understanding a variety of literature, selecting ideas and information from the text and presenting it in a variety of forms The course includes areas designed to to improve their comprehension skills in all areas and lots of hints and tips for how to boost their mark in an exam situation. We also factor in past papers from a variety of well-known independent schools and grammar schools to prepare the students for the range of exams that they may take. Students prepare Clitheroe 11+ paper in advance. This means read the extract and the questions and write down any new vocabulary on the Google Doc. Session 1: Go over Clitheroe 11+ paper. Discussion of types of multiple-choice questions. HW: Prepare Stockport Grammar School 11+ Session 2: Go over Stockport Grammar School 11+. Discussion of text choices at 11+. Go over a few different extracts if time. HW: Prepare Alleyn’s School 11+ 2016 Session 3: Go over Alleyn’s School 11+ 2016. Focus on EXPLAINING. HW: Prepare Bromley High School 11+ Session 4: Go over Bromley High School 11+. Focus on short creative tasks and parts of speech. HW: Prepare Kent College 11+ Session 5: Go over Kent College 11+. Focus on speed and accuracy. HW: Prepare Manchester High School 11+ Session 6: Go over Manchester High School 11+. Focus on explaining in your own words (and non-fiction extracts) HW: Prepare North London Girls 11+ 2009 Session 7: Go over North London Girls 11+ 2009. Focus on speed and accuracy. HW: Prepare St Albans High School 11+ Session 8: Go over St Albans High School 11+ and work with the students on the point, evidence, analysis structure. HW: Prepare The Haberdasher Aske’s School 11+ 2010 Session 9: Go over The Haberdasher Aske’s School 11+ 2010 with a focus on mood and atmosphere. HW: Prepare Manchester Grammar School 11+ 2016 Session 10: Go over Manchester Grammar School 11+ 2016 with a focus on selecting evidence from the text. Final questions, answers and oral feedback to students.
