Service Description

Phase 1 It is a 1-to-4 course. Leo Education's 11+ Non-Fiction Writing course is designed to equip students aged 9-11 with essential writing skills that extend beyond creative storytelling, focusing on structured, informative, and persuasive writing. Throughout the course, students will explore a variety of non-fiction text types, including diary entries, newspaper reports, persuasive letters, book reviews, and non-chronological reports. They will learn how to effectively analyse, plan, and craft these text types using key techniques such as DAFOREST (Direct Address, Alliteration, Facts, Opinions, Rhetorical Questions, Emotive Language, Statistics, and Triplets). By the end of the course, students will have developed the ability to convey information clearly and convincingly, preparing them for both academic assessments and everyday communication tasks. 1: Lesson Objective: To explore and compare different non-fiction text types and understand their purpose. HW: Analysis exercise based on lesson content 2: Lesson Objective: To identify and analyse the structure, style, and purpose of different types of reviews. HW: Writing exercise based on lesson content. 3: Lesson Objective: To plan and write a detailed and balanced book review using persuasive and descriptive language HW: Writing exercise based on lesson content. 4: Lesson Objective: To explore the features of diary writing and create a personal recount using first-person voice and past tense. HW: Writing exercise based on lesson content. 5: Lesson Objective: To explore the structure and features of newspaper reports, including formal and informal language use. HW: Analysis exercise based on lesson content 6: Lesson Objective: To write a newspaper report based on a historical event, using factual detail, journalistic tone, and chronological structure. HW: Writing exercise based on lesson content 7: Lesson Objective: To identify different types of persuasive texts and analyse how writers use DAFOREST techniques to influence an audience. HW: Analysis exercise based on lesson content 8: Lesson Objective: To plan and write a persuasive letter using emotive language, rhetorical devices, and logical argument. HW: Writing exercise based on lesson content. 9: Lesson Objective: -Identify features of a non-chronological report and explanation texts.
