Phase 3: 1-to-3. Phase 3 content. The course is different from the course during May half term. During the Summer holiday, we offer intensive courses in preparation for English Literature GCSE/IGCSE, with a focus on improving and maximising a student’s grade. English Literature will focus on how to approach and analyse prose, poetry, drama and unseen texts for English Literature GCSE/IGCSE. This course will be suitable for students taking any GCSE or IGCSE examination board and will be tailored as much as possible to the individual needs and examination texts of the student. Session 1: Language Features Lesson Objective: To learn how to approach and analyse a text: Language analysis and figurative language Homework: Language analysis exercise Session 2: Structure Lesson Objective: To learn how to approach and analyse the structure of a text: Form and Structure of a text Homework: Structure analysis exercise Session 3: Context Lesson Objective: To learn how to research and integrate context into a GCSE essay Homework: Creating context sheets on their chosen GCSE texts Session 4: Reader/Audience/Personal Response and Alternative Interpretations Lesson Objective: To learn how to understand and create a reader, audience or personal response to a text as well as consider alternative interpretations. Homework: Response exercise Session 5: Consolidation and boost Lesson Objective: To fully understand what they have learnt on the course, to boost their skills and abilities to the highest level, to optimise their exam techniques and to receive hints and tips on how to maximise their marks Homework: Revision and Consolidation
