Service Description

Phase 3: 1-to-3. Phase 3 content. This course is for GCSE/IGCSE exams in Grammar schools and Independent schools, and UKiset In the Summer holidays, we offer intensive courses in preparation for English Language GCSE/IGCSE, with a focus on improving and maximising a student’s grade. English Language will focus on both the comprehension skills and creative writing skills, for fiction and non-fiction writing, for English Language GCSE/IGCSE. This course will be suitable for students taking any GCSE or IGCSE examination board and will be tailored as much as possible to the individual needs of the student. Session 1: KEY SKILLS: Points vs Quotations, Explicit vs Implicit Lesson Objective: To learn how to select information in different forms from a text. To learn the difference between explicit and implicit points. Homework: Exercises based on the GCSE board that the student is studying. Session 2: KEY SKILLS: Summary and Structure Lesson Objective: To learn how to choose points for a summary and write one successfully. To learn about structural features in a text and their effect. Homework: Exercises based on the GCSE board that the student is studying. Session 3: KEY SKILLS: Creating character Lesson Objective: To learn how to create a realistic and interesting character, quickly and concisely, in order to improve a story. Homework: Planning a narrative piece of creative writing Session 4: KEY SKILLS: Figurative Language Lesson Objective: To learn how to recognise and use figurative language, both in order to analyse it in a text and to use it in writing of your own. Homework: Planning a descriptive piece of creative writing Session 5: KEY SKILLS: Persuasive techniques Lesson Objective: To learn how to recognise and use persuasive techniques in order to write a piece of persuasive and argumentative writing Homework: Revision and Consolidation of what has been covered on the course
