Service Description

Phase 1: It is a 1-to-3 course. This is a 1-to-3 course which is suitable both for students who are applying to grammar schools and those applying to independent schools with a range of written, oral and multiple choice questions covered. The main focus of the course is building comprehension skills, building understanding of English literature in various forms and learning how to answer a variety of different questions. It will focus primarily on reading and understanding a variety of literature, selecting ideas and information from the text and presenting it in a variety of forms The course includes areas designed to build a student’s confidence, ways to improve their comprehension skills in all areas and lots of hints and tips for how to boost their mark in an exam situation. We also factor in past papers from a variety of well-known independent schools and grammar schools to prepare the students for the range of exams that they may take. Student to complete City of London School 11+ paper in advance Session 1: Go over City of London School 11+. Discussion of multiple choice questions. HW: Complete Alleyn’s School 2012 11+ Session 2: Go over AS 2012 11+. Discussion of text choices at 11+. Go over a few extracts. HW: Complete Cheadle Hulme School 11+ Session 3: Go over CHS 11+. Focus on selecting and presenting evidence from the text. HW: Complete The Haberdasher’s Aske’s Boys School 20016 11+ Session 4: Go over HABS 20016 11+. Focus on short creative tasks – letter, diary, journal. HW: Complete the North London Girls 2017 11+ Session 5: Go over NLG 2017 11+. Focus on writing Point, Evidence, Explanation paragraphs. HW: Complete the Forest School 11+ paper Session 6: Go over the Forest School 11+ paper. Focus on selecting evidence and looking at the effects of language. HW: Attempt Aldenham School 11+ paper Session 7: Carry on working on Aldenham School 11+ paper together with a focus on writing longer answers, selecting evidence and looking at the effect of language. HW: Attempt North London Girls 2003 11+ paper Session 8: Carry on working on NLG 2003 11+ together with a focus on planning and structuring longer answers, HW: Finish off remaining parts of the previous two papers. Session 9: Go over final answers for both papers and mark accordingly. HW: Complete the Ipswich School 11+ Session 10: Go over the Ipswich School 11+ with a focus on explanation and meaning of words and phrases HW: Consolidation
